Reeling and Healing Midwest

Post Retreat Note

Fellow Fly Fishers,

What a wonderful time we had on the Au Sable River at Gates Lodge! From the get-go, we had fun, good conversations, delectable food, terrific weather, a beautiful setting and of course, the magnificent river.

All the women who traveled to Grayling and experienced the retreat – Laura, Jackie, Jean, Mary, Lori, Carla, Nancy, Kathy and Lydia are awesome! How inspiring and loving they are. There’s something about each of them that I will remember beyond their warmth, love and personalities though.

Who’d forget the hat chewed by Ruby, the bad cast into the tree, the incorrect way of applying lotion to your crow’s feet, body surfing the Au Sable, the big catches from the DNR, bad jokes or smart aleck comments, blue toes, figuring out what the heck a mayfly was, remarkable dance moves to Patrick’s bug song, night fishing and of course the losing “campfire virginity” comment or "pulling a Neal". (continued below)

Many thanks to all the volunteers who took time out of their schedules and helped us on and off the river. They are quite a unique bunch – and memorable as well.

As you can see, a few of the photos from our time together have been incorporated into this note. I’d like to remind you that in the near future we will be sending out contact information of all participants and volunteers, as well as the generous supporters and donors who helped make the retreats possible. Many more photos are being cropped and touched-up so we may print them for everyone too.

We're delighted to share the link to the video clip that featured Reeling & Healing Midwest on the Channel 9&10 Morning News last week. Click here to go to the webpage that has the clip. You will see the title "Flyfishing helps some survive breast cancer". Look for the "Play Video" phrase just underneath the title, click it and watch the two minute story.

We’re planning to mail our newsletter in October. If you would like to submit a story, quote, poem, photo, etc., please forward it to us by September 15th. Additionally, if you have photos that you would like us to copy/print and distribute or have placed on the website, just mail them to our address below.

We’ll keep you in the loop about future outings, retreats, volunteer opportunities, etc. via mail or email. Remember to let us know how you’re doing as well.

Here’s to renewed spirit and renewed hope.

FISH ON!

Cathy Sero
