This Retreat is Catching on! Everyone, Boy, what a memorable and fun day it was! Many times as a fisherman, I take the river for granted. No matter how the same stretch of water changes over time, I seem to "know" it and rely on my intuitive skills of reading the water, the weather, the environment, etc. It’s just second nature. Sometimes I forget to just be still and acknowledge the beauty and life surrounding me. My eyes are always opened to that beauty again and again by the men and women who attend our retreats - as many are seeing the river from such a different point of view - mostly wonderment. They are filled with gratitude, peace and joy too. It’s a reality check indeed. I've received notes from many of the participants extending their gratitude to the P.M. Lodge and all the river guides who volunteered their time that day and helped organize the float. The participants were floored and honored to have had the opportunity to float and fish the river. Everyone gives kudos to Tom & Peggy Seroczynski for opening up their home and providing the terrific catering too. Our volunteer staffers did a great job and shot some beautiful photos that we'll be copying, forwarding, and posting on our website in the near future. (continued below) |

Shortly after our season is over we will send more photos and information about vendors and individuals who helped make our retreat so memorable. In the interim, I wanted to send these photos - especially the group shot. Prints will be made, but here it is in electronic form right now. Again, many thanks to everyone for a making such a successful event happen. Frank Willets - your support of Reeling & Healing Midwest is astounding and I cannot thank you enough for helping to pull this together - down to the 30 lbs of ice! Speaking of Frank, he and I have a mission to make this retreat happen again next year - July 21st - a little bigger, a little better and even more fun. Mark your calendars! I want to send out a special note of thanks to Kevin Morlock. He showed up at the lodge on Sunday and insisted on taking a couple women on a float that day because he couldn't do it on Saturday with the rest of the guides. They had a great time! They were still gushing from their Saturday experience, and then to have the royal treatment on Sunday too - it was beyond their wildest dreams! I'm off for our next retreat which begins Sunday. We'll be up at Gates Lodge for a few days. Rumor is we may be on Channel 9&10 on Tuesday. Media coverage or not, it’s the women in the river who come first and foremost. They're all new to fly fishing and ready to learn. I can't wait to share the life and beauty of the river with them - renew their spirit and their hope. All the best and of course, FISH ON!
