The MFFC 2007 Expo Recap

Reeling & Healing Midwest - MFFC

We ended the first quarter of 2007 with a bang at the MFFC Expo in Warren, MI.

Thanks to the Michigan Fly Fishing Club, our volunteers and supporters, Reeling & Healing Midwest had its best booth ever.

Once again we were located in the center of the show floor. This year we double the size of our booth space to accommodate our display and showcase our organization a bit better. To add a bit of fun to the booth and show, we had a theme this year. We had a luau! It’s not everyday you attend a fly fishing show and encounter Jimmy Buffet music, luau decorations, booth staff wearing Hawaiian shirts and bright colors, or receive a strand of colorful fish beads. Our fish beads necklaces were everywhere!

This year we debuted our flat panel screen with videos and our new booth backdrop that was donated to us by the DuPage River Fly Tyers. We sold our signature t-shirts, fish earrings, hats and raffled a Tiffany Fly Fishing key chain and a slot at the famed Michigan Trout Unlimited Fly Fishing School (valued at $450).

Over 24 volunteers assisted with the booth over the two days of the show. They traveled from as far away as the suburbs of Chicago, and St. Joseph, Traverse City, Ludington, Spring Lake and Montague, Michigan and joined many from the Detroit area.

Our Fly Donation Basket was overflowing by the end of the show. We received numerous flies and will share the donations with our participants this year, as well as with Reel Recovery, Fishing Has No Boundaries and Project Healing Waters. As many of you know, we have always had a shortage of trout flies and welcome them with open arms. Our efforts to supply flies to all the participants this summer is close to becoming a reality.

Another hit of the show was the chair massage therapist, Laura, who worked her hands on many sore backs and shoulders. She generously donated a portion of monies to sponsor a participant at a summer retreat.

Special thanks to the Careys, Wally B. and Dave M. for all the prep work and transportation they provided.

Many thanks to all of the show attendees who stopped by and purchased raffle tickets and other items. Your support will help us send ten women to our retreats this summer.
